Material state: Raw materials are unprocessed, WIP is partially processed, and finished goods are fully processed. 2. Location within production: Raw materials are input materials used for production, WIP is the current status of products in the production process, and finished goods are the final output.
Raw materials refer to the basic substances used to manufacture a product. These are the starting point of any production process. On the other hand, work in progress (WIP) represents partially completed goods during various stages of the production cycle.
RAW is a file format that captures all the data from your camera sensor without any compression or processing, unlike JPEG, which is a compressed and processed format that discards some data.
Raw materials consist of both direct materials and indirect materials. Work in process (WIP) are products that are not yet ready for sale. Finished goods are products that are completely done and ready to go out the door.
Generally, work in process refers to manufactured products that move from raw materials to finished products quickly. For example, a bakery with 50 batches of bread in production is a work in process. On the other hand, work in progress may refer to large-scale productions that take longer to complete.
Lets avoid all the geek-speak and keep it simple; RAW files are the highest quality type of digital image a digital camera can capture. So, to my mind, any pro photographer worth their salt will ALWAYS shoot in RAW format. I always shoot in RAW format for this reason.
RAWs give you more information to work with, but you have to put more time into that work. If speed is of the essence, or you want a point-and-shoot experience that yields photos ready to use out of the box, JPEGs might actually be a better option than RAWs.
Examples of raw materials include steel, oil, corn, grain, gasoline, lumber, forest resources, plastic, natural gas, coal, and minerals. Raw materials can be direct raw materials, which are directly used in the manufacturing process, such as wood for a chair.
