To recap, the Bucket of Water symbol by itself is the only symbol that indicates you can machine-wash your clothes.
Wash in warm water on a normal cycle to get an effective clean. In most cases, washable dress shirts will do fine in this setting as they are made to be laundered (check out our guide to washing machine cycles and settings here). For lightly worn garments, a delicate cycle is fine.
Machine wash your non-iron dress shirts on a warm or cold water setting and tumble dry at a LOW heat temperature. The low heat will activate the time-saving non-iron properties, leaving you with a shirt that looks just pressed wrinkle-free. Thats right guys, lose the iron, you dont need it.
Use the right washing cycle for dress shirts Wash the shirts on a delicate cycle, using hot water for whites and light colors and cold water for dark colors. Of course, if the care label indicates specific setting, follow those instructions. Be sure to use a high-quality detergent.
Apply white vinegar to the area, let it soak in for a couple minutes. Pour salt onto the stained area, then work it in with your fingers. Put the garment in the sun and let it air dry. Wash as usual. Check to see if the stains gone, repeat the steps if not.
If the stain sets, spot treat it with a solution of 50 percent vinegar and 50 percent water, then use a brush and a little laundry soap to remove the vinegar.
We recommend wearing gloves when working with them. Our pick: Amodex Ink Stain Remover. Our pick: OxiClean On the Go Pen Stain Remover. Our pick: Tide Ultra Oxi Powder Laundry Detergent. Our pick: Tide Free Gentle Liquid Laundry Detergent. Also great: Zout. Also great: Clorox 2 Stain Remover Color Brightener.
Another way of saying this is that dress shirts tend to shrink more in the length than in the width. Sleeve length, shirt length and collar around are where you can expect most shrinkage to occur, while generally speaking shirts wont shrink as much in their width.
