Imagine trying to use words to describe every scene in a film, every note in your favorite song, or every street in your town. Now imagine trying to do it using only the numbers 1 and 0. Every time you use the Internet to watch a movie, listen to music, or check directions, thats exactly what your device is doing, using the language of binary code. Computers use binary because itamp;#39;s a reliable way of storing data. For example, a computeramp;#39;s main memory is made of transistors that switch between either high or low voltage levels, such as 5 volts and 0 volts. Voltages sometimes oscillate, but since there are only two options, a value of 1 volt would still be read as amp;quot;low.amp;quot; That reading is done by the computers processor, which uses the transistors states to control other computer devices ing to software instructions. The genius of this system is that a given binary sequence doesnamp;#39;t have a pre-determined meaning on its own. Instead, each type of

What is a word in binary? - Quora. 16 bits, or 2 bytes. The successive sizes are: nibble (or nybble, either hi or low, hi 4 bits or low 4 bits of a byte), byte (8 bit), word (16 bit, 2 bytes), dword (double word or 32 bit, 4 bytes) and qword (quad word or 64 bit, 8 bytes).
A binary word of length n is a string of n binary digits, or bits. For example, there are 8 binary words of length 3, namely, 000, 100, 010, 001, 110, 101, 011 and 111. From: binary word in The Concise Oxford Dictionary of Mathematics Subjects: Science and technology Mathematics and Computer Science.
The binary system is a way of representing data using 0s and 1s. This system is used by computers to represent all the data it works with. To compute a number in this system, you would multiply the digit value by the place value, then add them all together.
A common binary word length in microcomputers and other digital equipment is 8 bits. All data storage, processing, manipulation, and transmission are carried out in 8-bit groups. Word lengths of 4, 8, 12, 16, 32, and 64 bits are common in digital equipment. An 8-bit word is usually called a byte.
A byte is eight bits, a word is 2 bytes (16 bits), a doubleword is 4 bytes (32 bits), and a quadword is 8 bytes (64 bits).
WORD (16 bits/2 bytes)
The length of a binary number is given by the value of n, actually its n+1. For example, a binary number like 101 has a length of 3, something larger, like 10011110 has a length of 8. Each digit is multiplied by a weight: the 2n, 2n-1, 21, etc.
Therefore, 255 in binary is 11111111.
