in this video were going to talk about how to express negative numbers in binary using the sine magnitude method and the twos complement method and later in this video were going to talk about how to add and subtract binary numbers using the twos complements so lets say if we want to write negative six as a number how would we do that so were going to start with the sine magnitude method in order to express negative six first we need to find out what six is and were going to use a four bit binary to do so so 2 to the n minus 1 thats going to be 2 to the 4 minus 1 which is 2 to the 3 and thats 8. so this is going to be 8 4 2 and 1. so first lets express six as a binary number six is four plus two so were going to put a one in the column under four and two and were gonna put a zero everywhere else so that would be positive six in sign magnitude the first three numbers corresponds to the magnitude of the number six the last number zero this corresponds to the sign so if the l

This is the simplest way of representing the both positive and negative numbers in binary system. In the signed magnitude representation, Positive number is represented with 0 at its most docHub bit (MSB). Negative number is represented with 1 at its most docHub bit (MSB).
Any number that is 1 less than a power of 2 will be merely a string of 1s equal to that numbers power. So again, we see that 255 in binary is written as 11111111.
The sign of the binary number is determined by the leading (furthest left) digit. If it is a 1, then it is negative, and the magnitude, or absolute value, can be found by flipping all 1s to 0s and 0s to 1s. If it is a leading 0, then treat it like a normal binary number.
Binary numbers can be represented in signed and unsigned way. Unsigned binary numbers do not have sign bit, whereas signed binary numbers uses signed bit as well or these can be distinguishable between positive and negative numbers. A signed binary is a specific data type of a signed variable.
In computer science, the sign bit is a bit in a signed number representation that indicates the sign of a number. Although only signed numeric data types have a sign bit, it is invariably located in the most docHub bit position, so the term may be used interchangeably with most docHub bit in some contexts.
The positive sign is represented by placing 0 in the sign bit. Similarly, the negative sign is represented by placing 1 in the sign bit. If the signed binary number contains N bits, then N1 bits only represent the magnitude of the number since one bit MSB is reserved for representing sign of the number.
Consider the binary number 10101101. Interpreted as an unsigned integer, this is decimal 173. Interpreted as a signed integer, this is 81; invert all of the bits except the sign bit and add one and you get 1010011.
For signed binary numbers the most docHub bit (MSB) is used as the sign bit. If the sign bit is 0, this means the number is positive in value. If the sign bit is 1, then the number is negative in value.
