Mask leak is most often caused by incorrect adjustment, assembly, mask size or mask type. In addition, components that are worn and in need of a replacement are not as effective and could be causing the leak. First, make sure your headgear isnt too tight. Next, confirm you have the right mask size and type.

If you have coarse facial hair, you may still experience a leak. Fortunately, you can condition your beard with lanolin to help improve the seal. Because you might need to tighten your mask, a CPAP mask liner can maintain the seal.
Leak can be caused by a number of issueshaving the wrong mask size or type, the mask not being assembled or fitted correctly, or parts being worn out and needing replacement. The acceptable leak rate is up to 24 litres per minute. Anything below this means you are still getting the full benefits of therapy.
High level of air pressure: High amounts of air pressure correlate with an increased risk of unintentional leak. Old or damaged mask: Changes over time to mask parts like straps can cause a poor mask fit. Ill-fitting mask: A proper mask fit is important to avoid side effects like CPAP leaks.
If leak persists, with your device still switched on, reseal by briefly pulling your mask away from your face, letting your cushion reinflate, and resettling your mask cushion so the cushion membrane is sitting at the top of your nasal bridge. If leak continues, you may need a different size mask.
Your CPAP Headgear Is Too Loose or Too Tight It may seem unusual that over-tightening your straps could lead to an air leak, but many CPAP mask cushions achieve their seal by inflating. An overly tight mask may stop the cushion from inflating all the way, preventing a good seal.
