Ive used paint and I prefer the Anchorseal. Besides being friendlier to the environment than paint, it seals very well, and has a very important benefit - there is no brush cleanup.
Sealing and Chinking Repair For a typical 1,500 square foot home, the price tag for this type of log cabin maintenance may run anywhere from $3,000 to $7,500. Homes that are not maintained properly may sustain damage.
Chinking is the the flexible sealant used during your log homes construction or maintenance to seal joins between the logs, gaps, holes and checking.
Log cabin chinking is the process of filling the gaps between the logs in the home. It requires specific chinking materials and chinking equipment, along with some more familiar tools.
It is a simple case of running a bead of flexible silicon water proof sealant into the joint to fill any gaps and provide a cover fillet. However we recommend that the silicon is only applied after all other treatments are completed and the wood has dried and settled.
The use of sealing products is essential at keeping moisture out of your cabin so that it remains cozy throughout the winter months and doesnt develop any structural problems due to excess moisture exposure. From cedar-wood oil to a natural clay-based sealer, there are many options available.
Chinking is a synthetic sealant that is used to seal the joints of log homes. Chinking is textured like mortar and very flexible. Chinking can be used in place of caulk and is mostly used in the joints between logs.
Application Steps Fill log gaps with appropriate sized backer rod before applying sealant. Apply Perma-Chink log chinking over backer rod. Mist with water to make tooling sealant easy and smooth. With light pressure, slide flat-bladed tool along sealant to smooth and ensure adhesion to logs.
