Unlike deceased donors, a living donor can decide who to donate their organ to, helping a recipient get an organ transplant faster. Most living donations happen between family members or close friends. Other people choose to donate to someone they dont know.
Most states let you choose which organs and tissues you want to donate.
When an organ donor becomes available, all the patients in the pool are compared to that donor. Factors such as medical urgency, time spent on the waiting list, organ size, blood type and genetic makeup are considered. The organ is offered first to the candidate that is the best match.
Can I donate organs to a friend or loved one awaiting a transplant? Yes. When you specify an individual to receive a donated organ or organs, you are participating in what is called directed or designated donation. This can be done for both deceased donation and living donation.
Anonymity of deceased organ donation is a legal requirement in many international jurisdictions where legislation prohibits health professionals from disclosing identifiable information about donors, recipients or their families.
Organising the transplant assessment. Talking to and educating the patient and their family about transplantation. Collating the results from assessment investigations. Being a point of contact for the patient at all stages of the assessment.
Antibodies can result from blood transfusions, pregnancy, infections or even a viral illness. Having one of these events does not mean a person will make antibodies but they could. If a recipient has strong antibodies against a donors HLA, the risk of rejection is high and a donor would be declined for that recipient.
Recipient employee is an employee, agent, subcontractor or other person who acts by or through Recipient entity to obtain, access, use, store or disclose confidential information.
