- Kate Smith: And so, by using technical imaging and scientific analysis, weamp;#39;re able to learn a great deal about, not only the people that are depicted, but the artists that were painting them. These two portraits are a great example of sort of a study in contrast. Theyamp;#39;re both portraits of women. Theyamp;#39;re more or less contemporary with each other, but theyamp;#39;re material differences give them very different appearances. This portrait is painted with an animal skin glue tempera. So a water-based medium and the pigments are listed here on the label in many cases. Because we were able to actually identify them. During normal driving, on a level road, EGTs should be in the 600 to 800-degree range. A lower cruising EGT can be a great indicator of getting good fuel economy. Even during normal driving, exhaust gas temperature is a value that can tell you how efficiently your engine is working at a given moment, gear, and speed.
What happens when your EGT gets too high? Nothing good! Certain parts of your engine can fail due to the excessive heat produced. This can affect your turbocharger, cylinder head, head gasket, exhaust manifold, and pistons.
Exhaust Gas Temperature (EGT)
There is no actual limit on EGT when leaning at altitude. Whatever the temp you peak at is your starting point it operate ROP or LOP. Remember that LOP must be done on last cylinder to peak and ROP is done on first cylinder to peak. A good use of EGT is on takeoff with full throttle, full mixture, and 2700 RPM.
If everything is working properly, 1250 to 1300 F. is a safe turbine inlet temperature, even for sustained running, mile after mile. Above 1300 F. things can start to get edgy. Remember, excessive EGT damage is cumulative.
