Open Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides offline If on Chrome, make sure you are signed into your desired account. Go to drive.google.com/drive/settings. Check the box next to Create, open, and edit your recent Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides files on this device while offline.
Type with your voice Check that your microphone works. Open a document in Google Docs with a Chrome browser. Click Tools. When youre ready to speak, click the microphone. You can turn on offline access from Docs, Sheets, or Slides settings. If you turn on offline access for Docs, Sheets, Slides, or Drive, then the rest will also be available offline.
For instance, if you use Google Docs using Safari on your Mac, you will run into a major problemyou cant use it offline. So you wont be able to access and work on your documents if you lose internet connectivity. The support for offline mode function in Google Docs is limited to Google Chrome.

Use a Chromium-Based Browser If youre using a different browser like Firefox or Safari, you cant use voice typing on Google Docs. You also wont be able to use a few other features like offline typing on non-Chromium browsers. The feature is also unavailable on the Google Docs app for iPhone and Android phones.
