What does work in a pattern mean in knitting? Work in patterns means to keep knitting the pattern as its been established in previous rows either by following a chart or written instructions. In plain stockinette, knit one row and purl back, alternating knit and purl rows.
Work Established Pattern or Work Pattern as Established Work subsequent rows or rounds following the pattern as previously given. Rows or rounds of pattern are worked until each sequence is completed, and the length of knitting is completed.
After that, it says Work even in pat (pattern) as established. This means that youll continue working the sides of the sweater in stockinette stitch (knit on the right side, purl on the wrong side), then work the chart rows in their order. So on Row 3, youll work Row 3 of each chart, and on and on.
It works the same way as it does in a knitting patternit just means to keep doing what youve been doing. So when it says to Work even in sc (single crochet), it just means that you will simple work a single crochet stitch over and over as you build up the sides of the bag (or the fabric of your project).
You dont need to worry about ending the row when you decrease. As long as you begin in the correct place, the row will end when youve run out of stitches and they will all be aligned as intended. Remember, just as with increasing, where you begin and end will change each time you decrease more stitches.
When you see work even in a pattern, this means that you should work in the main stitch pattern, without increasing or decreasing. It may be that it tells you to work even for a set number of rows, or until your work is a certain length.
Work in Pattern Whether youve been increasing or decreasing, when you begin to work even, continue working in whatever pattern you were doing during the shaping. If you were knitting stockinette stitch, continue knitting stockinette stitch. If you were working double crochet, continue working double crochet.
