Paragraph Length We suggest a minimum length of five (5) sentences and maximum length of three quarters (3/4) page for undergraduate nursing student papers. APA does not have an absolute rule for paragraph length, but keep in mind that paragraphs develop and focus your ideas.
As remarked above, the first paragraph after a title or section heading is not indented. Every succeeding paragraph should be indented; the tab key on any keyboard will do this for you.
APA Style (7th ed.) Begin every line of text from the left margin, except for the first line of each paragraph. Indent each line of a new paragraph one tab space, which should be set at 1.27 cm or 0.5 in (American Psychological Association, 2020, p. 45).
Include the authors name, the date, and the paragraph number, heading or section, or both in parentheses at the end of the sentence. Furthermore, the research (Smith, 2019, para. 4).
Include an in-text citation when you refer to, summarize, paraphrase, or quote from another source. For every in-text citation in your paper, there must be a corresponding entry in your reference list. APA in-text citation style uses the authors last name and the year of publication, for example: (Field, 2005).
Your text following the block quote should be either (a) indented, if it is a new paragraph, or (b) flush left, if it is a continuation of your paragraph (see Examples 4 and 5 in this PDF).
APA Style (7th ed.) Begin every line of text from the left margin, except for the first line of each paragraph. Indent each line of a new paragraph one tab space, which should be set at 1.27 cm or 0.5 in (American Psychological Association, 2020, p.
The first line of each paragraph should be indented one-half inch (or five-to-seven spaces) from the left margin. APA recommends using two spaces after end-of-sentence punctuation.
