The XPS format is similar to PDF because both file types are designed to show the final appearance of a document and provide information for printing. However, XPS files are written in a different programming language.
While PDF and XPS files are both print and share-ready document formats, there are some notable differences between the two. You can view PDF files on most devices and open them with several different programmes, while youll need an XPS Viewer or compatible browser to open an XPS file.
XPS stands for XML Paper Specification. Thats because it contains page layout information written in the XML page description language. Essentially, this type of language describes the structure and content of a document, including its layout and appearance, making it suited for printing for example.
An easy way to do this is to type xps into the Windows search bar (you can click the magnifying glass next to the Start button or press Windows key + S if you dont see it) and click XPS Viewer in the search results. Open the XPS document in the viewer.
Select Save . On the File tab, choose Save As . In the File Name box, enter a name for the file, if you havent already. In the Save as type list, select PDF Files (*.pdf) or XPS Files (*.xps) , and then choose Save .
xps file extension, must be edited from another application. Save the XPS document to a corresponding Microsoft Word, Excel or PowerPoint program and then use that programs editing tools to make changes. When youre done, convert it again to XPS format.
Identification and description. Full name. Microsoft XML Paper Specification, (XPS) Description. The XPS (XML Paper Specification) format, developed by Microsoft, serves as a fixed-page document format, a spool file format, and a page description language (PDL) for printers.
XPS is the abbreviation of XML Paper Specification. It is a page description language which can describe a single page or a document containing multiple pages. The description includes all the text and graphics that appear on the page(s).
