ASCII stands for American Standard Code for Information Interchange. It might sound like a mouthful, but all it really means is that its a system that computers use to convert letters, numbers, symbols, and other text elements into a language they can understand.
ASCII files contain data in ASCII code, which is a human readable character representation of text. Files stored in this format can be read and edited via a text editor, such as vi, emacs or Notepad. The data entries contained in the files are written in the form of rows and columns.
Write your name in ascii using an 8-bit code with the leftmost bit always 0. Include a space between names and a period after middle initial. Explanation: We represent the ASCII values in binary system. Taking example : 7 6 5 4 3 2 1 0----- we multiply the 0s and 1s with 2 th power of this integers. So for A-65.
The delete control character (also called DEL or rubout) is the last character in the ASCII repertoire, with the code 127. It is supposed to do nothing and was designed to erase incorrect characters on paper tape. It is denoted as ^? in caret notation and is U+007F in Unicode.
When data is encoded using ASCII, each character in the text is converted into its corresponding ASCII code, which is then stored as a sequence of binary digits (0s and 1s). This binary representation of the data can be transmitted from one computer to another, where it can be decoded back into the original text.
To insert an ASCII character, press and hold down ALT while typing the character code. For example, to insert the degree () symbol, press and hold down ALT while typing 0176 on the numeric keypad. You must use the numeric keypad to type the numbers, and not the keyboard.
In general, the ASCII value of a letter is easy to find in this way: Find the cardinal value of the letter - 1 for A, 2 for B, , 26 for Z. If it is uppercase, add 64. If it is lowercase, add 96.
ASCII is an 8-bit code. That is, it uses eight bits to represent a letter or a punctuation mark. Eight bits are called a byte. A binary code with eight digits, such as 1101 10112, can be stored in one byte of computer memory.
