In HTML 5 it has no role or meaning other than triggering a standard-mode in browsers. In the XML Recommendation (XML is what XHTML is based off) it is stated that declaration elements must begin with an exclamation mark. Comments are also declarations and they too begin with an exclamation mark.
The question mark, ?, indicates zero or one. (elementA,elementB) The element must contain exactly one elementA element and exactly one elementB element. The element names are separated from each other by commas. (elementA|elementB)
You use markup symbols, called tags in XML, to define data. For example, to represent data for a bookstore, you can create tags such as , , and . Your XML document for a single book would have content like this:
Any text between characters is considered as a comment.
URLs sometimes use question marks as separators. This marks the end of the navigable part of the URL (the thing that tells your browser where to send you) and the beginning of tracking elements called query strings.
The question mark means the code is not yet added and committed to your repository. This is normal and would disappear as soon as you commit your code to git. I would not export the jar. The maven build takes care of everything and makes sure everything it packed.
asterisk ( * ) means 0 or more of the elements are required. plus ( + ) means 1 or more of the elements are required. question mark ( ? ) means 0 or 1 element; the element is optional. parentheses ( () ) are for grouping elements.
Special characters are indicated by enclosing the text for the character between an ampersand () and a semicolon (;). Also, if the XML is passed in a URL, then URL encoding of special characters is required as shown in Table 2.
