Syntax. The XLOOKUP function searches a range or an array, and then returns the item corresponding to the first match it finds. If no match exists, then XLOOKUP can return the closest (approximate) match.

Method 1: Inserting a Symbol from the Insert Tab If you use WPS Office, you can find the symbol directly in Insert-Symbol (Recently used symbols), click it to insert a check mark immediately.
Example: Open your table in WPS Spreadsheets, click cell H5. In this case, we need to enter the LOOKUP Function. 1) Valueis the value to search for in an array, cell G5 is the value that represent the first-ranking student we want to search, so lets enter G5 at Value. Drop-down cell H5 to complete the process.
The superior alternative to VLOOKUP is INDEX MATCH. While VLOOKUP works fine in most cases, it tends to reveal flaws when you start using it in large and complex sheets. The INDEX MATCH formula is actually two different functions; INDEX and MATCH. array is range of cells or an array constant.
For example, =VLOOKUP(A:A,A:C,2,FALSE). You can resolve the issue by anchoring the lookup reference with the @ operator like this: =VLOOKUP(@A:A,A:C,2,FALSE). Alternatively, you can use the traditional VLOOKUP method and refer to a single cell instead of an entire column: =VLOOKUP(A2,A:C,2,FALSE).
The LOOKUP function in Excel retrieves a value from a one-row or one-column range. It performs a rough match lookup either vertically or horizontally. The vector form syntax is =LOOKUP(lookupvalue, lookupvector, [resultvector]), while the array form is =LOOKUP(lookupvalue, array).
