Acronyms. Acronyms are acceptable, but use the name in full on its first use in a particular document (e.g. an assignment), no matter how well known the acronym is.
Additionally, avoid using text message abbreviations or informal abbreviations (like bc instead of because), as they can make your essay seem unprofessional.
Avoid using abbreviations and acronyms whenever possible. Unless the short form is more familiar, theyre bad for readability and can alienate readers. So, write things out in full to make your content accessible and inclusive.
Avoid using slang, abbreviations, and informal vocabulary. Your sentences should be concise and clear. Additionally, use only words and phrases you are comfortable and familiar with.
Abbreviations should only be used if the organization or term appears two or more times in the text. Spell out the full term at its first mention, indicate its abbreviation in parenthesis and use the abbreviation from then on, with the exception of acronyms that would be familiar to most readers, such as MCC and USAID.
Univ is a written abbreviation for University which is used especially in the names of universities. the Wharton School, Univ. of Pennsylvania.
The abbreviated form is used in the SOP. Avoid the use of etc. If the list is limited, write it out in full. If a list is extensive and inappropriate to write out in full, write the term for example (e.g.) and give a relevant list.
