Any initials coming from a name (such as The W. A. Franke College of Business or J. L. Walkup) should have periods and a space between the two initials, just as the two names would have a space. All other acronyms should not have periods or spaces.
The first letter of your name is your initial. The first thing you say to someone is your initial greeting. Initial is something that occurs first or at the beginning. If someone asks you to initial a form, theyre asking you to sign by writing your initials on it.
Periods are frequently, but not always used, after initials and with two-letter abbreviations (U.S.). Declarative sentence: Harry S Truman did not use a period after his middle initial. Periods should be placed inside closing quotation marks, except when followed by a parenthetical note.
If a person uses initials for only part of their name, use periods (J. R. R. Tolkien). If a person uses two or more initials to abbreviate their entire name, do not use periods. (FDR, MLK). Latin abbreviations like etc., e.g., c., and i.e. always use periods.
The reasons may vary. Perhaps they have an Embarrassing First Name theyd rather not use, and maybe they have an Overly Long Name that needs to be abbreviated. Others may think it sounds classier, and some may prefer the fact that it is more gender neutral.
In the United States the most common name suffixes are senior and junior, which are abbreviated as Sr. and Jr. with initial capital letters, with or without preceding commas.
Traditionally, a monogram reads First Name Initial, Last Name Initial, Middle Name or Maiden Name Initial. With the Last Name Initial being the larger Middle Initial. For example, if you had the name Kelsie Elizabeth Vogds, her monogram would read KVE.
are known as suffixes. Place the Jr. or III after the authors first initials in the reference, and place a comma to separate the initials from the suffix (American Psychological Association, 2020, p. 286) Example: Lastname, A., Jr. ( year). Dont include the Jr. or III in the in-text citation: (Lastname, year, p. X).
