Headings are signposts that focus the reader on the most important content in a piece of writing, and are usually connected to the set question. Provided that they are well structured, a few headings make longer pieces of writing easier to write and easier to read (for the marker).
Headings help the reader know what to expect in each part of the document and titles can help a reader know whether or not the document is relevant to his or her business needs.
H1 is the primary heading and title for the page. H2 is a subheading and supporting point. H3 is a subsection or list item under an H2. H4 is a subsection or list item under an H3.
The main goal of a heading is to inform the reader of what content they can find in that section, so make your headings as descriptive as possible.
Heading hierarchy Headings should be logically structured on a page. A page starts with the H1 heading , followed by an H2 heading and should you need another sub-section it can be followed by an H3 heading . If you need more sub-sections, you can even add H4-H6 subheadings .
Headings are standard features of technical documents that serve several important functions: provide organizational overview of the document. show logical development of ideas. show hierarchical relationship of ideas (headings, sub-headings)
Headings are used to break up the different parts of your page content to give it a logical structure. This makes the content easier for the user to understand at a glance. It also makes it easier for search engines to crawl, so there are SEO (search engine optimisation) benefits to using headings correctly.
