In Of Mice and Men, Georges job is as a ranchhand laborer. He is hired to buck barley during the harvest. This means he is hired to help toss large sacks of grain onto a cart. This is also the job Lennie is hired to do on the ranch.
Answer and Explanation: Lennies death in Of Mice and Men is foreshadowed by Crooks shooting Candys dog. Although Candys dog is old, blind, and lame, Carlson uses this as an excuse to put the dog down.
Candys dog symbolizes the fate of the weak. Candy fears that he, too, will be killed when he is no longer strong. The dogs death is connected to Lennies death, as Lennie is unable to function in the society in which he lives.
The death of Curleys wife From the beginning of the novella, Steinbeck foreshadows that Lennie will accidentally kill Curleys wife while trying to stroke her hair. In the first section, George scolds Lennie for petting mice until they die.
The death of Lennie was foreshadowed many times. Right in the back of the head, was one of the many quotes that led me to Lennies death (pg. 45). This quote shows in what way Lennie will be shot, George took in everything that they said.
The killing of Candys dog was related to when George killed Lennie in several ways. First of all, both the dog and Lennie were weak, and killed as soon as they became useless to the society. Also, the dog was Candys friend, and Lennie was Georges friend. In both cases, Slim viewed the deaths as mercy killings.
Candy regrets not killing the dog himself, and Lennie, like the dog, is due to be put down by Curly. These events foreshadow Georges decision to shoot Lennie himself in the most humane manner possible.
Slim is the most respected character on the ranch, despite not actually being in charge (although he is in charge of one of the grain teams). He is calm and thoughtful; all of the other men look up to him and value his opinions.
