In a freight collect payment, freight charges are billed to the party receiving a shipment, often called the consignee, rather than the party sending it over. Basically, the person that collects the shipment at the end has to pay for the cost of its transit.
Who pays for accessorial charges? The consignee charged for shipping cargo is billed any carrier accessorial charges by the transportation service provider. Many freight accessorial charges are added to a freight bill when a shipment is booked with a carrier.
Accessorial charges are fees that freight carriers bill to their customers when additional transportation services, such as unpacking, liftgates, and detentions are used to complete a delivery. These additional services are not initially covered in the base rate fee and are added to your freight invoice once billed.
Charges Collect is a payment term used in freight forwarding where the consignee, or the recipient of the goods, is responsible for paying the total transportation charges upon delivery.
An accessorial charge is a fee added to a shippers freight invoice for services the motor freight carrier performed beyond the standard pick-up and delivery operation designated at the time a shipment is tendered.
The seller pays insurance, transportation costs, and other costs associated with the transit of goods until the buyer takes possession of the goods.
Accessorial charges are fees for additional services performed by the carrier beyond pick-up and delivery such as loading, unloading, packing or unpacking. Fees can also be charged by a carrier for waiting time or delays at the loading dock.
