A laser engraving machine is a piece of equipment that performs laser engraving, which is the process of engraving designs, letters or numbers on materials using a laser beam. These engraving machines use automation to achieve precise cuts and engravings on various materials, including metal, wood, glass and plastic.
Drawing on paper, use of technology in preserving and replicating the drawing, tracing various designs using carbon paper on flat and curved surfaces, patterns and designs, introduction to tools use in engraving.
Engraving is an intaglio printmaking process in which lines are cut into a metal plate in order to hold the ink. In engraving, the plate can be made of copper or zinc.
Print the design in reverse with a laser printer or photocopy machine. Cut the design out with scissors. Lay the print face down, and place a solvent-dampened paper towel on the back side of the design. Press down firmly. Remove the paper, and hopefully there will be a clean transfer.
The primary difference between them is that engraving is a physical process, and etching is a chemical process. An engraver uses sharp tools to cut lines directly into a surface, while an etcher burns lines into a surface with acid.
In general, a plate coated with a photosensitive substance is exposed to an image, usually on film; the plate is then treated in various ways, depending upon whether it is to be used in a relief (letterpress) or an intaglio (gravure) printing process.
