(soft music) (mellow music) - [Instructor] To register a work with the US Copyright Office, you generally must identify the author or authors of that work and the party that owns the copyright in the work. Ordinarily, the author is the person or persons who created the work you intend to register. Works Made for Hire are an exception to this rule. A copyrightable work is a work made for hire in two situations. First, when it is created by an employee as part of the employeeamp;#39;s regular job or second, when itamp;#39;s a certain type of work thatamp;#39;s created as a result of a written agreement between the creator and a party specially ordering or commissioning it. For legal purposes, when a work is a work made for hire, the individual who created the work is not the author. Instead, the employer or the commissioning party is the author and copyright owner. In the US and UK, copyright is equivalent only to the patrimonial rights of European copyright, except that it protects the person who finances the creation of a work from the moment it has a physical form.
Original works of expression that are eligible for copyright protection are protected under national copyright laws. Protection against unauthorized use in a particular country depends on the national laws of that country; in other words, copyright protection depends on the national laws where protection is sought.
Copyright in the context of cyber law refers to the legal rights granted to creators of original works in the digital realm. These rights prevent unauthorised copying, distribution, and modification of digital content, including software, e-books, music, videos, and other online materials.
Nobody apart from you has the right to make the work public or reproduce it. In EU countries, copyright protects your intellectual property until 70 years after your death or 70 years after the death of the last surviving author in the case of a work of joint authorship.
Although there is no fair-use doctrine akin to the US copyright doctrine, EU copyright law puts specific limitations on the exclusive rights of copyright by allowing unauthorized use of copyrighted works in the public interest for the purposes listed in Art.
ing to the CJEU, originality requires that the work be the authors own intellectual creation. This means that the work must reflect the authors personality and be the result of the authors free and creative choices[1]. The originality requirement does not necessitate any artistic merit.
Use public domain materials Public domain material is any content that isnt subject to copyright laws. In other words, youre free to use these materials as you like. Sometimes, the original creator of a piece of content intentionally allows for public use, as is the case with royalty-free images and videos.
You get copyright protection automatically - you dont have to apply or pay a fee. There isnt a register of copyright works in the UK. You automatically get copyright protection when you create: original literary, dramatic, musical and artistic work, including illustration and photography.
