so Iamp;#39;m going to tell you why this makes no sense and it has nothing to do with cost time none of that it has to do with why pap smears actually hurt and why pelvic exams actually hurt so I actually take care of women Iamp;#39;m gonna give useful information not just a cute sound bite the reason that your pap smear hurts for 90 of people is because the pelvic flow muscles are tense and tight and then we are sticking a very hard firm metal or plastic speculum inside and then opening it so this is talking about the general population not people who have conditions that cause pain but it does include people who have never had penetration and women who have had sexual assault so when you have a stranger coming at you with a hard speculum your instinct is to tense up and pull away you are flexing those muscles of your pelvic floor and then we are sticking that instrument in there that is going to be very painful especially when itamp;#39;s time time for this speculum to be opened i

Epithelial cell abnormalities This means that the cells lining the cervix or vagina show changes that might be cancer or a pre-cancer. This category is divided into several groups for squamous cells and glandular cells.
Pap smears are a lifesaving screening tool for cervical cancer. The test can detect abnormal cells in the cervix before they become cancerous. Healthcare providers often perform HPV tests during Pap tests to check for HPV, one of the leading causes of cervical cancer.
Atypical squamous cells of undetermined significance (ASCUS): ASCUS can be caused by vaginal infections, including yeast infections. Using new condoms, impending menstruation, and HPV infections can also trigger this result. ASCUS is the most common reason for an abnormal test result.
In most cases, the presence of abnormal squamous cells does not indicate the presence of cervical cancer. However, abnormal Pap results should always be discussed with a medical professional so that an individualized action plan can be created.
Atypical squamous cells, cannot exclude a high-grade squamous intraepithelial lesion (ASC-H) For ASC-H, the risk of a high-grade precancerous lesion or cervical cancer is higher than ASC-US [1,2]. If you had an ASC-H Pap test, regardless of your age, the next step should be a colposcopy for further evaluation.
Atypical squamous cells of undetermined significance is the most common abnormal finding in a Pap test. It may be a sign of infection with certain types of human papillomavirus (HPV) or other types of infection, such as a yeast infection.
ASC-H may be a sign of a high-grade squamous intraepithelial lesion (HSIL), which may become cervical cancer if untreated. More testing may be needed. Also called atypical squamous cells, cannot exclude a high-grade lesion.
Abnormal cervical cells may also return to normal even without treatment, especially in younger women. LSIL and HSIL are two types of abnormal changes to cervical squamous cells.
