You know I get to do seminars I ask people what their zip code is. I have a whole bunch of zip codes here and Iamp;#39;m gonna try and collapse us down to get a summary by zip code. So: Insert, Pivot Table. Iamp;#39;ll put the Pivot Table in an existing worksheet right here click OK. Drag zip code down along the rows area. And then sum the numbers. Cool. If you have an Excel spreadsheet that includes address information, you may wish to convert 9-digit ZIP Codes to their 5-digit counterpart. This can be done by using the Convert Nine Digit ZIP Code to Five Digit ZIP Code function.
Apply a predefined postal code format to numbers Select the cell or range of cells that you want to format. On the Home tab, next to General, in the Number Format box. In the Format Cells dialog box, under Category, click Special. In the Type list, click Zip Code or Zip Code + 4.
Follow the steps below to shorten to five digits: Insert a new column to the right of your current zip code column. Type or copy and paste =LEFT(C2,5) , replacing C2 with your cells identifier. Drag the formula down the rest of your column.
If youre importing addresses from an external file, you may notice that the leading zeros in postal codes disappear. Thats because Excel interprets the column of postal code values as numbers, when what you really need is for them to be stored and formatted as text.
Export the query to Excel and remove the +4: In Excel, highlight the column with the ZIP codes. Select Data, Text to Columns from the menu bar. In Step 1 of 3, ensure Delimited is selected and click Next. In Step 2 of 3, unmark Tab and select Other. In Step 3 of 3, make no changes and click Finish.
Apply a predefined postal code format to numbers Select the cell or range of cells that you want to format. , click the arrow, and then click More Number Formats. In the Format Cells dialog box, under Category, click Special. In the Type list, click Zip Code or Zip Code + 4.
Type the formula =SUBSTITUTE(Cell1,-,) into the fx text box. You can replace the Cell1 section with the name of the cell you want to delete dashes from and press the enter button on your keyboard. Continue using the SUBSTITUTE formula to delete dashes from individual cells throughout your Excel spreadsheet.
