hi in todayamp;#39;s video iamp;#39;m going to be covering using cgi scripts with the w3m command line browser this will allow us to execute scripts by running a hotkey to open links with video players or um audio players so in a previous video i um i showed you a key map for w3m which would basically take the url and run it through grep and said to remove the google redirect and what iamp;#39;ve done is simplify this by putting the code in a cgi script and basically what i can now do is just run a keyboard shortcut and itamp;#39;s going to run this script and then importantly itamp;#39;s also going to run the back command in w3m to move the browser back a buffer so that you donamp;#39;t get a buffer showing output of shell command after youamp;#39;ve finished playing the video so what iamp;#39;m doing is basically running three different scripts with three different keyboard shortcuts to either open the video or use task spooler to cue up videos or a script i wrote called pinc

A cgi-bin folder can be used to enable support for legacy CGI scripts. When you enable a cgi-bin folder, any executable program in that directory can be requested. Any program that outputs a valid HTTP response can be a CGI script.
The programs in the CGI-Bin directory are called CGI scripts; these scripts generate dynamic webpages and provide added function and purpose to your webpages. Using these scripts, you can process requests from visitors to your website, send data, manipulate images, generate forms, and more.
Basically CGI is a technique for generating such web pages dynamically via other applications which are run by the web server on an as-needed basis. The directory cgi-bin is typically used to house the scripts being run.
Form Processing: CGI scripts in the CGI-BIN directory are commonly used for processing form submissions, such as user registrations, contact forms, feedback surveys, and login/authentication systems.
(The default directory is usually /cgi-bin/, so one can tell that URLs like this: point to a CGI script. Note that the directory can be called anything.) Some servers can also be set up to not use CGI directories and instead require that all CGI programs have file names ending in .
Developed in the 1990s, CGI is still used, but other methods such as PHP scripts are also utilized. CGI programs are capable of sending many kinds of media, such as documents, images, and audio clips. Many Web sites with fields for input use CGI, and a great deal of the dynamic content on the Web is done using CGI.
Bins are used for storage and organization, so the CGI-Bin is a storage location on your server where executable programs are housed until needed. The programs in the CGI-Bin directory are called CGI scripts; these scripts generate dynamic webpages and provide added function and purpose to your webpages.
The Common Gateway Interface (CGI) is a method of allowing a hyperlink to refer to a program rather than a static web page. The easiest way to understand how a CGI works is by contrast with an ordinary web page.
