Since most RPT files are saved in text format, most of the files can be opened using a text editor, such as Microsoft Notepad or Apple TextEdit. If the RPT file is saved in a proprietary format, you will most likely need to use the program that created the file to open it.
Grouping Data: Select Insert, Group from the menu bar. Select the field to group the data by from the top drop-down list. Select the sort direction from the second drop-down list. Mark the Customize Group Name Field (only available in Crystal Reports 8.5) checkbox to show a different value in the group header. Click OK.
Text-based RPT files can be opened with any text editor, like the Notepad program built-in to Windows. The free Notepad++ tool is another option, and there are plenty of others that work similarly.
Under DATABASE select SET DATASOURCE LOCATION, not Database Expert where you remove a database. From the Set Datasource Location dialogue you can update an existing source with a new source (e.g. swap one existing SP in the report for another SP not in the report) without removing anything.
Editing a Query Once the Crystal Report is created using a query, to make changes to objects you have to go to edit data source option. When you click on the option, it will open an Edit Query panel where you can add/delete objects, apply filters, etc.
Select the Layout tab. Enter a Width for the Detail Size. Enter a Horizontal value for Gap Between Details. Select the OK button at the bottom of the Section Expert dialog box.
How to modify a Crystal report Search for or retrieve a group of records on which to report. Click Reports on the Home tab of the Ribbon to display the Reports box. Select the report to be edited and then click Properties . If it is necessary to add or remove fields from the report, select the Fields tab:
Refresh the Crystal Report Select Report, Refresh Report Data from the menu bar. The message Refresh Report Data? appears. Click OK. Allow the report to process.
Go to Detail Section, Section Expert under this you have PAGING in this tab you can see one check box called vissible record, select that and give the number of record to be vissible.
