You can expect to pay between $1 and $4 per linear foot for painting or staining. The trim price of baseboards may be higher since they are wider and therefore require more time and materials. If you are on a smaller budget, consider buying pre-painted or stained trims.
For consistent color, use careful timing. Never allow any stain to dry on the wood surfaceit will prevent the clear finish from adhering and cause other issues. Remove the last of any unabsorbed stain with a dry cloth, wiping in the direction of the wood grain.
Leaving wood stain without wiping it off can result in uneven coloration and a tacky finish. Its essential to wipe off excess stain after application to achieve consistent color and prevent blotching. If a darker shade is desired, multiple coats can be applied with wiping in between.
A contractor will charge around $1 to $2 per square foot to stain a new deck while refinishing and restaining a deck can cost between $4 and $6 per square foot or more. If your deck is quite old or crumbling, expect structural reinforcement or partial replacement.
Did you wipe away the excess after you applied your coat of stain? If you didnt, the stain may still be tacky. You should not apply your clear topcoat until the stain is no longer tacky and has been allowed to dry at least as long as the label recommends.
Bleedback is ugly. Stain is applied differently than almost any other finish: it is usually rubbed onto the wood with rags and then immediately wiped off. The amount of stain that a floor can absorb is finite; the floor will not get darker if you flood it with an excess of stain or apply a second coat.
Is it Bad to Let a Stain Sit? The longer a stain sits, the harder it is to remove. You should try your best to treat stains promptly, including the ones you notice after they have already set. Pretreating old and fresh stains can play a massive role in getting stains out of clothes.
