In this video tutorial, the topic is the differences between wiping stain and penetrating stain in woodworking. Wiping stain is suitable for a broader range of surfaces, including previously finished wood, fiberglass, unfinished wood, and metal. It is an oil-based stain with a thicker texture, ideal for woods like maple and cherry. In contrast, penetrating stain is best for unfinished interior wood surfaces and may not be as versatile. The video emphasizes the importance of choosing the right stain type to preserve furniture, paneling, or floors and prevent fading, ultimately guiding viewers on the best option for their specific woodworking projects.

Did you wipe away the excess after you applied your coat of stain? If you didnt, the stain may still be tacky. You should not apply your clear topcoat until the stain is no longer tacky and has been allowed to dry at least as long as the label recommends.
For consistent color, use careful timing. Never allow any stain to dry on the wood surfaceit will prevent the clear finish from adhering and cause other issues. Remove the last of any unabsorbed stain with a dry cloth, wiping in the direction of the wood grain.
4 golden rules of stain removal Absorb it. First lift off or soak up as much of the staining substance as possible. Dissolve it. Residue that cant be absorbed needs to be dissolved. Use a detergent. Greasy or fatty stains, such as gravy, will not dissolve in water. Use a chemical reaction.
Simply open up your stain sprayer and pour in your wood stain or mix. Then turn and seal the lid counter-clockwise to create an air seal. This allows you to build up the vacuum within the sprayer so you can spray it as needed. The sprayer will have a handle coming from the top near the hose.
You could spray the stain and then wipe it off as if you applied with a rag or whatever. You will waste more product, but it is faster. Stain cleans up out of guns easily with lacquer thinner, and spraying it with your good gun really wont hurt.
Use a clean rag to wipe off any excess stain and continue to let the wood dry completely. Stain is a fast-drying liquid, so this shouldnt take too long. Once dry, use a tack cloth to remove any dust or dirt. After the surface is clean, apply a second coat of stain.
