rubbing with a liquid laundry detergent or paste of granular laundry detergent and water. Launder using chlorine bleach, if safe for fabric. If not, use a sodium perborate or oxygen bleach. Soak in a solution of 1 quart warm water, 1/2 teaspoon detergent and 1 tablespoon white vinegar for 15 minutes.
Always consult the Material Safety Data Sheet of any substance if you are unsure about handling. In the case of isopropyl alcohol and the 70% aqueous solution, unless you can still smell it on the clothing or other fabric it should be fine.
Apply rubbing alcohol, hair spray, or hand sanitizer to dilute the stain, making it easier to remove during the wash. These solvents help tackle most types of ink stains but remember to test the stained garment for colorfastness first as they can also attack fabric dyes and cause further damage.
Rubbing alcohol can be effective for cleaning finished wood surfaces, particularly for removing grease, grime, or stubborn stains. Dilute rubbing alcohol with water in a 1:1 ratio to avoid damaging the wood finish, then apply it to a clean cloth and gently wipe the surface in a circular motion.
Rubbing alcohol is a diluted form of isopropyl alcohol. Sometimes, it also contains other ingredients, such as wintergreen essential oil. While the concentration of isopropyl alcohol is 100%, the concentration of many brands of rubbing alcohol is 70%.
It leaves no residue and evaporates quickly relative to water. It is low toxicity compared to alternative solvents and is similarly relatively environmentally benign, being ozone safe with excellent green solvent scores.
Isopropyl alcohol is colorless and therefore doesnt stain fabric. It may have partially dissolved the dye already present in the fabric and caused to to migrate along with the alcohol as it spread by capillary action, in which case you probably see a lighter area surrounded by a darker ring.
If its a small stain, place a paper towel under the stain and use an eyedropper to apply rubbing alcohol onto the stain. For a larger spot, pour the alcohol into a small dish, immerse the stained area and soak for 15 minutes.
