The average GIF size dimensions are 480p resolution (4:3) at 640 width 480 height. Youll find platforms advising to keep dimensions under 1200x900px, and others encouraging the use of GIFs that are 500px wide at most.

Each file can support up to 8 bits per pixel and can contain 256 indexed colours. GIF files also allow images or frames to be combined, creating basic animations.

Open your GIF in Descript, access video settings, and reduce values like width, height, and quality slider to resize the GIF file size. Lower resolutions and fewer frames require less space.
GIF Creation Best Practices Uploads are limited to 15 seconds, although we recommend no more than 6 seconds. Uploads are limited to 100MB, although we recommend 8MB or less. Source video resolution should be 720p max, but we recommend you keep it at 480p.
Please keep your GIF file size to 10 MB or less. We recommend that your GIFs be no more than 540 pixels wide. GIFs under 3 MB wont be compressed; however, we do convert all uploaded GIFs to the GIFV format. If youre uploading a compressed GIF, the file should be no larger than 5 MB.
Here are some suggestions. Reduce the size of the image. The larger the image size, the larger the file size will be. Optimize the color palette. Reduce the number of frames. Use compression. Use a different file format. Trim the animation. Use a lower quality setting. Host your GIFs on a third-party platform.
