Water baking soda paste A paste of baking soda and water (mix the parts until theyre the consistency of toothpaste) is mildly abrasive, so it gently buffs away surface scuffs when you rub it on the wall in circular motions with a cloth.
Scuff sanding is the process of lightly sanding a surface in preparation for primer, paint, and/or varnish. You can scuff sand bare surfaces, or even ones that have been already painted or varnished. It helps smooth out imperfections as well as give paint and varnish something to grip on to.
The Very Fine scuff pad is a maroon color and it is an aluminum oxide grain ranging between 360 to 400 grit. You can use this scuff pad with most solutions for cleaning and polishing. Coarse scuff pads are a brown color and are also an aluminum oxide grain, but these ones are 120 grit.
You have two options for sanding: you can start with the courser grit sandpaper (between 600-800 grit), or you can go straight to the fine-grit sandpaper (between 1,200-2,000 grit).
Scuff sanding is the final step before painting or staining. It involves lightly sanding the surface to create a smooth and slightly roughened texture for better paint or stain adherence. Regular sanding, on the other hand, is used to remove existing finishes or imperfections from the wood surface.
1,000 grit is used to completely remove the 600 grit scratches. Dry guide coat is required between these two steps.
