Was Wipeout cancelled? Yes, the show was originally canceled after its seventh season due to low ratings.
Wipeout creator and executive producer Matt Kunitz, who also executive produced Endemols Fear Factor (NBC), said Wipeout is 90% Fear Factor-inspired, 10% Japanese game show, adding in a Los Angeles Times interview that Wipeout was born from a desire to do a funny stunt series.
On February 1, 2009 during the Wipeout Bowl I, Monica Kaufmann became the first female Wipeout Champion.
The creators and executive producers are Matt Kunitz and Scott Larsen. Distribution of the show was handled by Endemol Shine. The show was taped at Sable Ranch in Canyon Country, Santa Clarita, California, north of Los Angeles.
The main idea of this TV show came from a Japanese TV show, Takeshis Castle.
The concept of Wipeout was first discussed during a pub conversation, when a Psygnosis staff member, Jim Bowers, envisioned creating a futuristic racing game which featured anti-gravity ships. Some elements of the game were inspired by Matrix Marauders, an Amiga game released by the Liverpudlian studio in 1990.
Wipe Out is a surf music instrumental composed by Bob Berryhill, Pat Connolly, Jim Fuller and Ron Wilson. Composed in the form of twelve-bar blues, the tune was first performed and recorded by the Surfaris, who became famous with the single in 1963.
