okay so the painting weamp;#39;re gonna start today is going to be a limited palette or a dead palette painting weamp;#39;re adding an extra color to this which is going to be um uh titan buff so weamp;#39;re going to start with titanium white titan buff yellow ochre burnt sienna and ultramarine blue will not use any other pigments aside from these so the first thing you want to do is lay out your palette and structure it so that itamp;#39;s something that you get accustomed to doing itamp;#39;s a quick way to um acts as your colors eventually you donamp;#39;t even have to really look at your palette the idea is that once you are very comfortable with the way that your palette is structured you always go back and put the pigment in the same location and you just get accustomed to seeing it in that location so going from cool to then warm to then cool so always keeping that reference of warm and cool relationships okay so these are all the pigments that we will need to start off t

Most underpaintings are monochromatic and begin with a coloured ground, which is colour applied as an even layer across the surface. The artist may leave out or remove highlighted areas to allow the white beneath to show through, giving the final work a greater sense of light and contrast.
Subtractive painting involves adding layers of paint to a ground, then selectively wiping them away to create an image. Using Golden OPEN acrylics on top of molding paste, and in conjunction with glazes, its possible to create highly colorful compositions with layers of depth.
The technique is simple: Once the canvas has been covered with a solid layer of dark or medium-dark paint, a lintless cloth or brush can be used to bring back the white of the canvas. The cloth or brush can be dry, or it can be dipped in a bit of odorless mineral spirits (for oil paint) or water (for acrylic paint).
The purpose of a Grisaille underpainting is to act as an underlayer which will be painted on top of with colourful transparent layers of paint. While a Grisaille painting is a painting done only in monochromatic colours with no colours added on top. Grey Grisailles can be left alone as finished paintings.
Underpainting gets its name because it is painting that is intended to be painted over (see overpainting) in a system of working in layers. There are several different types of underpainting, such as veneda, verdaccio, morellone, imprimatura and grisaille. The different types have different colourings.
The most traditional color for the underpaint is an earth color or grey. This might comprise burnt sienna, burnt umber or a mixture of an earth color and blue, such as ultramarine. It does not matter if the underpaint forms an even, flawless layer, as it will be painted over.
In general, oil underpaintings begin with a much larger proportion of solvent and a small amount of oil. This makes the paint dry faster, and less slick, so that future layers will attach properly. Pre-mixed oil painting mediums may also be useful for this purpose, as long as you remember the fat-over-lean method.
