Can I Delete the custom AMI once the instance launched using that AMI?

If you create an AMI from an existing instance, once the AMI is created, AWS creates a snapshot of the root storage as well as all the EBS volumes that are attached to the instance. When you deregister the AMI, it is simply deleted.

Is snapshot used by AMI?

When you create an AMI of an existing EC2 instance, a snapshot is taken for all the volumes that are attached to the instance. The snapshot includes the device mappings. You cant use snapshots to launch a new instance, but you can use them to replace volumes on an existing instance.

Can I Delete snapshot after creating AMI?

You cant delete a snapshot of the root device of an EBS volume used by a registered AMI. This consideration applies even if the registered AMI is deprecated or disabled. You must first deregister the AMI before you can delete the snapshot. For more information, see Deregister your AMI.

Can I Delete the snapshot of a VM?

Snapshots should only be kept for a few days; this is not a backup. When you create a snapshot, the deltas are written into it. If you delete this, the changes will be merged back into one image. The faster the snapshots are gone, the faster it works.

How do I Delete an image in AWS?

To delete an image (AWS CLI) List the images in your repository. (Optional) Delete any unwanted tags for the image by specifying the tag associated with the image you want to delete. Delete a tagged or untagged image by specifying the image digest.

What is the difference between snapshot and AMI backup?

Snapshots are used to restore volumes or create existing ones. AMI is a template that can be used to create an EC2 instance exactly the same as the EC2 instance when the image was taken at a particular instance.

How do I Delete an AMI image?

Resolution Open the Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2) console, and then select AMIs. From the dropdown list, select Owned by me. Choose the gear symbol in the upper-right corner. Turn on the Product code option, and then select Confirm. Select the AMIs that you no longer need. Select Actions, Deregister AMI.
