Methods for How to Fix Dents in Wood Place a wet cloth over the dented area. Use a clothes iron on a medium setting and gently press over the cloth for several seconds. The steam will cause the wood fibers to swell and fill the dent. This method is particularly effective for removing dents from wooden floors.
Sanding Method: Sand the dented area until smooth. Fill the dent with wood filler. Once dried, sand the filler down to match the surface level. Finish with a touch of polish or paint if necessary.
The easiest way is to use a wet rag. Soak the rag (kitchen towel works best) in water and then simply place the clothe or rag over the indentation. Leave the wet rag in place for ten to fifteen minutes or so and you should, when you remove the rag, have no dent in the timber.
If the dent is too deep, it may be necessary to fill the dent with an epoxy, wood inlay, or lacquer lay-in. If removing the dent is not an option, you may need to replace the dented piece of flooring with a new board, then sand and refinish to match the floor.
A: Dent pullers are most effective on shallow dents with a smooth surface. They may not work as well on creases, wrinkles, or complex damage to the body panel.
Plunger Method: Position the plunger over the center of the dent, ensuring it covers the entire affected area. Press the plunger firmly against the metal surface, then pull it back with a quick, steady motion. Continue to push and pull the plunger with force, maintaining a tight seal, until you feel the dent pop out.
Dents in wood can often completely remove by steaming them out. Take a damp cloth and use the tip of a clothes iron and hold it on the dent lightly. Leg it steam for 1015 seconds. Repeat several time if necessary.
