Example - Using TOP keyword Lets look at a SQL Server example, where we use the TOP keyword in the DELETE statement. For example: DELETE TOP(10) FROM employees WHERE lastname = Anderson; This SQL Server DELETE TOP example would delete the first 10 records from the employees table where the lastname is Anderson.
If you wanted to delete a number of rows within a range, you can use the AND operator with the BETWEEN operator. DELETE FROM tablename WHERE columnname BETWEEN value 1 AND value 2; Another way to delete multiple rows is to use the IN operator.
In SQL Server, DELETE TOP statement is used to delete the records from a table and limit the number of records deleted regarding a fixed value or percentage. Syntax: DELETE TOP (topvalue) [ PERCENT ] FROM [databasename].
Reset the Identity Value Using the DBCC CHECKIDENT Method : Here, to reset the Identity column in SQL Server you can use DBCC CHECKIDENT method. Syntax : DBCC CHECKIDENT (tablename, RESEED, newvalue); Note : If we reset the existing records in the table and insert new records, then it will show an error.
TRUNCATE resets Identity columns Its used to create key values in tables. DELETE statements dont reset identity columns. It means new rows will have the next value in the identity columns.
TOP (topvalue): It is used to delete the top number of rows in the result set based on topvalue. For example, TOP(10) would delete the top 10 rows matching the delete criteria.
DELETE Syntax DELETE FROM tablename WHERE condition; Note: Be careful when deleting records in a table! Notice the WHERE clause in the DELETE statement. The WHERE clause specifies which record(s) should be deleted.
It is used in the DELETE LIMIT statement so that you can order the results and target those records that you wish to delete. It specifies a limited number of rows in the result set to delete based on rowcount. For example, LIMIT 10 would delete the first 10 rows matching the delete criteria.
