Welcome to Office 2016 Video Number 6. In this video, were going to see how to create a business letter, create a letterhead, save as a template, and much more. Heres our complete list of topics. Now Im going to close this Excel file with the X up in the upper right hand corner or Alt-F4. Now, Ive already put my jump drive in and drilled down to our Video File Word folder. Heres all the files we created in the last couple of videos. We want to create yet another file and put it in this folder. Now, I want to show you a different way to open up a Word document. Normally we come down here and click this and then F12 to Save As. But if you are in Windows Explorer, you can come to the white area and right-click the wide area, point to New, and then look at that. We can create a Word document or an Excel file right here using Windows Explorer. So Im going to click Microsoft Word document. Immediately, it puts the file in the correct location and highlights just the file name, not the

Writers should write out the month, give a space before writing the numeral for the day, follow that with a comma and space, and then, write the numeral for the year followed by a period. Correct: Jaws was released in the United States on June 20, 1975. Incorrect: Jaws was released in the United States on June 20 1975.
Youre composing a formal letter or email. Where does the date go? The answer is right at the top! For an American audience, its usually formatted as Month Day, Year (e.g., August 30, 2023), while a British audience would expect it to be written as Day Month Year (e.g., 30 August 2023).
The American format is Month-Day-Year, written usually as either May 28, 2015, or 5/28/15. The British and European format is to go from smallest to largest: day, month, year. The same date would be written 28 May 2015, or 28.5. 15 (periods seem to be preferred to slashes in this format).
Write out the full date with no abbreviations. If both you and your recipient of the letter are in the U.S., Belize, or Micronesia, write your date in month-date-year format. For instance, if your letter were dated 02/23/2019, you would write the date as February 23, 2019.
Dateline: Three to six lines beneath the letterhead, flush left or right. The dateline contains the month (fully spelled out), day, and year. Recipient address: Three to six lines below the dateline, flush left.
If an Australian writes February 3, 2019 as 03/02/2019, but an American writes the same date as 02/03/2019, whos right? The international standard recommends writing the date as year, then month, then the day: YYYY-MM-DD.
Format. The date is generally written in full in a business letter. The usual North American style places the month before the day, with a comma between the day and the year: April 4, 2016.
The month is spelled out in full, and all numbers are written as numerals (January 1, 2010, not Jan. 1 or January 1st). The date is typed two to six lines below the letterhead, usually on the right side of the page, although flush-left and centered datelines are also perfectly acceptable.
