Hello my name is Doug Leasure, and Im recording this video to introduce you to the latest version of the software for recording donations at a church or other faith-based organization. This software uses a lot of Excel formulas but it also uses Excel VBA code so it does require a full version of Excel on a PC or a Mac. All right let me start with a very high level demonstration overview of the software so that you can decide whether this might be something you can use at your organization and whether or not its worth continuing to watch this video. All right so we start with a large number of parameters that allow you to customize this for use at your church or your organization. Things like the name of the church, the address, whether youre reporting monthly or weekly, those kinds of parameters that you can adjust. And then we also have a list of donors. Receipts for cash gifts must have the following: the name and address of the charity as on file with the Canada Revenue Agency ( CRA ) a unique serial number. the registration number issued by the CRA. the location where the receipt was issued (city, town, municipality)
The receipt format for donation requirements is as follows: Donor Information: The name, address, and phone number of the donor. Date of Donation: The date on which you donated. Description of the Donation: A description of the type of donation (monetary or non-monetary)
Generally, you can claim part or all of the eligible amount of your gifts, up to the limit of 75% of your net income for the year. You may be able to increase this limit if you give capital property (including depreciable property). For more details, see Calculating your increased donation limit.
Canada Revenue Agency allows Goodwill to offer a tax receipt for eligible items using a Fair Market Value assessment. The value is determined by understanding what the item would be sold for today in the current market.
In general, a well put together donation receipt should include the nonprofit organizations basic information such as name, the donation date, the donation amount, and a statement indicating that the organization is indeed an official nonprofit with their corresponding nonprofit ID nonprofit listed.
