hey this is mike from daydrums conco and today iamp;#39;m trying out watko pipe on poly so iamp;#39;m applying this to poplar and as youamp;#39;ll see in the center thereamp;#39;s a pretty dark strip and then lighter strips on the outer edges and the only difference is that the center called rainbow poplar gets that color when mineral deposits come up through the root system of a tree and into the wood grain so both colors of wood come from the same tree and i really like poplar for that reason i also think it sounds great on percussion instruments so this watco polyurethane is a bit thicker than some other brands iamp;#39;ve used itamp;#39;s almost a maple syrup or a honey consistency so in some ways itamp;#39;s kind of sticky to apply but it still is quite easy to work with iamp;#39;m going to flip over the cajon here and finish the other side so you see that iamp;#39;m using rubber gloves and then iamp;#39;m using blue shop towels from scott and scott shop towels work grea
