Bette Nesmith Graham, a woman who never finished high school but still went on to become one of the most famous women inventors of the 20th century. Graham is the woman behind liquid paper, better known as white-out.
How Did Graham Invent White Out? Graham (purposefully) began to use white tempera paint and a thin paintbrush to cover her typing errors. It was originally called Mistake Out.
Nesmiths mom invented whiteout. Nesmith was raised in Dallas by his mother, Bette Nesmith Graham, who invented the first correction fluid in 1956 while working as a typist. She turned her whiteout, Liquid Paper, into an office staple, selling the company to Gillette in 1979 for $47.5 million plus royalties.
