Note: Instances created from AMIs do not retain or copy any data stored in instance store volumes. The source instance you create the AMI from retains all data that is stored in the instance store.
Amazon EC2 now allows you to add tags to your Amazon Machine Images (AMIs) and EBS Snapshots during AMI creation. Tags are simple key-value pairs that you can assign to resources to easily organize, search, and identify resources, create cost allocation reports, and control access to resources.
A tag is an attribute that consists of a key and an optional value that you can attach to an AWS resource. With this launch, administrators can attach tags to additional IAM resources to identify resource owners and grant fine-grained access to these resources at scale using attribute-based access control.
A tag is a label that you assign to an AWS resource. Each tag consists of a key and an optional value, both of which you define. Tags enable you to categorize your AWS resources in different ways, for example, by purpose, owner, or environment.
So what is tagging in cloud computing? Tagging in the cloud is a process where users can add descriptive metadata (tags) to their cloud infrastructure. A tag consists of two parts: a key and a value to identify a resource in a cloud environment.
An AMI includes the following: One or more Amazon Elastic Block Store (Amazon EBS) snapshots, or, for instance-store-backed AMIs, a template for the root volume of the instance (for example, an operating system, an application server, and applications).
For example - services like ec2,s3,lambda,dynamodb - has tagging feature, so that resources can be identified by tags(assuming they are tagged). Services like sns,sqs - do not have tagging option.
Starting today, Amazon EC2 enables customer created tags to be included during Amazon Machine Image (AMI) CopyImage operations. This feature aims to reduce customer burden if you want to employ the same tags across all your copied AMIs.
AWS Identity and Access Management (IAM) – at this time, you can tag only the following IAM resources using the Resource Groups Tagging API: instance-profile. mfa. oidc-provider. policy. role. saml-provider. server-certificate. user.
View tags for a repository (console) You can use the CodeCommit console to view the tags associated with a CodeCommit repository. Open the CodeCommit console at https://console.aws.amazon.com/codesuite/codecommit/home . In Repositories, choose the name of the repository where you want to view tags.
