NET introduced secrets. To add a secret, right-click on your project and then select Manage User Secrets in Visual Studio. The AddUserSecrets method takes a type that indicates in what assembly the secret resides. Here I used Program, but you could use any other class inside the assembly.
After creating an ASP.NET Core Web Application, lets start by initializing our user secrets via Developer PowerShell by typing the command. dotnet user-secrets init --project UserSecrets. dotnet user-secrets set connectionstrings this is my connectionstring --project UserSecrets.
In Visual Studio, right-click the project in Solution Explorer, and select Manage User Secrets from the context menu.
Your secrets are stored in a JSON file under your user profile. In a Windows machine, they are stored in the %APPDATA%\Microsoft\UserSecrets\\secrets. json file.
By far the easiest way to use User Secrets is via Visual Studio. Right click your entry project and select Manage User Secrets. Visual Studio will then work out the rest, installing any packages you require and setting up the secrets file! Easy!
Here are the steps: Create a KMS key. Use the AWS console or CLI to create a KMS key (symmetric encryption). Encrypt your secrets. Create a separate configuration file for secrets. Register the configuration at startup. Access your secrets the same way you normally access configuration settings.
Secrets shouldnt be deployed with the app. Instead, production secrets should be accessed through a controlled means like environment variables or Azure Key Vault. You can store and protect Azure test and production secrets with the Azure Key Vault configuration provider.
Right click your entry project and select Manage User Secrets. Visual Studio will then work out the rest, installing any packages you require and setting up the secrets file! Easy! You should be presented with an empty secrets file which we will talk about later.
