once youve had your baby before you go home from postnatal ward theres a few different things that the midwives need to organize before they can process your discharge if you have received any input from our obstetric doctors during your pregnancy labor or postnatal period they will need to review you and deem you as clinically fit for discharge your baby will also need their newborn infant physical examination also known as a nippy this is carried out by either one of our paediatric doctors or one of our specialist midwives on the weekend and this check is redone at six weeks old with your gp on the ward we also work alongside other specialist services such as the infant feeding team the maternal medicine and also the infant hearing screening they may come and see you during your stay if youre needing to see one of our physiotherapists after youve had your baby then the midwives can organise for this to be done on the ward you can also see our physiotherapist information video for
