Void Checks in payroll is used to reverse individual pay checks or to void an entire pay run. The void process reverses the original transaction including the employees net pay check and any accounts payable invoices posted for taxes or deductions.
A void transaction is one that has been canceled by the merchant before it is processed to the consumers credit or debit card account. A transaction can only be voided if it has been authorized but not settled.
Checks are marked with the word void to ensure they cannot be accepted as payment. A cancelled check is simply a check that has already been cashed in and cleared by the bank, so can no longer be used. Checks are cancelled to ensure they cannot be used more than once.
Some credit card issuing banks will take 2 to 3 days to remove the pending charge.
In order to void the transaction, the customer must contact the merchant and request the transaction be reversed unless the merchant notices a mistake or issue and proactively voids a transaction at the point of sale.
Step 1: Use a blue or black pen or marker that cannot be erased. Step 2: Write VOID in large letters across the front of the check. Step 3: Cover as much of the check as possible with your writing, without covering up the routing or bank account number at the bottom of the check.
A voided check is a check with the word VOID across it, which indicates that it shouldnt be used for payment. Its typically written in large letters, so it cannot be mistaken for cash use.
