Line breaks are used when you want to keep text within a paragraph, but control where the line ends. These are very useful on your title page. To insert a line break, click where youd like it to go in your text, and then press the keyboard combination of Shift + Enter.
Inserting ASCII characters To insert an ASCII character, press and hold down ALT while typing the character code. For example, to insert the degree () symbol, press and hold down ALT while typing 0176 on the numeric keypad. You must use the numeric keypad to type the numbers, and not the keyboard.
Line break: Use a line break, also called a soft return, to start a new line without starting a new paragraph. Page break: Use a page break (in word-processing documents only) to move a line of text to the top of the next page or to start typing on a new page.
A blue horizontal divider shows you where the page is split so you dont get lost, and you can reposition this divider vertically by dragging the three horizontal lines up or down.
On your iPhone or iPad, you can see most invisibles when you select text that includes them. To temporarily view all of the symbols in your document, tap in an empty corner of the page, then tap Select All. A clipping indicator appears at the bottom of a text box if text extends below its borders.
A line break starts formatted text at a new line. Line breaks are formatted with the . BREAK command. An alternative method of breaking lines without the . BREAK command is to turn line filling off and have the source lines output as they were entered.
Formatting marks (called invisibles) are added every time you press the Space bar, Tab, or Return, and when you add a column break, page break, or section break. By default, these marks dont show, but you can view them to see where formatting changes have been applied.
Enter special characters and symbols Click in the text where you want to place the character, then choose Edit Emoji Symbols (or press Control-Command-Space bar). The Character Viewer appears where you clicked. You can drag it to the desktop if you want to keep it open as you work.
In an app on your Mac, choose Edit Emoji Symbols to open the Character Viewer, or open it from the Input menu. (if available on the keyboard).
To type the section symbol (), press and hold the Alt key, then enter the numbers 0167. On a Mac, press and hold the Option key and enter the number 6. If this doesnt work, your section symbol may be bound to a different keybinding.
