What is a void in a restaurant?

The official definition tells us that a void is an item that was never made, it consequently was never delivered and shouldnt be on the final ticket (three tacos instead of two). On the other side, a comp is an item that was rung up, made in the kitchen and delivered on purpose.

How do you void an order on Toast?

To void an unpaid order, select the Update button and then navigate to the overflow menu at the top right on the Quick Order screen. Select Void Order and select the reason for the void. The order is removed from the Orders Hub screen.

What does comp mean in restaurant?

Basically, a comped meal is a free meal at a restaurant. The word comped or comping comes from the word complimentary. Single food items or drinks can also be comped.

What does it mean when a payment is void?

A void transaction is a debit or credit card transaction that is canceled by the merchant before it is settled by the cardholders bank and the merchant has received payment. Transactions are often voided when customers or merchants discover that an error has occurred, or when fraud is suspected.

What is the difference between void and refund on Toast?

Refunds are only supported on checks from previous days. Reversals of credit card, cash, or Toast gift card payments on the same day are considered voids (see Void Items, Payments, and Checks for more info). Until payment is captured, you can void items on the order.

What does it mean when an order is voided?

If a transaction is voided before it is settled, the cardholders bank wont charge (or debit) the cardholders account for that purchase. A transaction void lets you cancel fulfillment. This means you wont be charged any credit card processing fees for the transaction (more on this below).

What does void mean on toast?

Until the check payment is captured, you can void the check to cancel the payment and the menu item selections. For example, a guest might place an order and then have to leave unexpectedly before they receive the meal. After the payment is captured, you cannot void the check. You must refund the check amount.

What are voids and clears?

Voids usually happen through human error such as a server ringing in the wrong item or the wrong quantity, but the mistake is caught before the item is made so it is completely removed from the ticket. Depending on your POS systems, this action could be called Cancel, Over-ring, Delete, or Clear.
