Filmed in Sault Ste. Marie at the former location of Sir James Dunn Collegiate and Vocational School.
Enter the Void is about life after death. Specifically, its about the life after death that troubles all of us atheists and rationalists most of all: the life after death that we all believe in other peoples lives in this busy and unhappy world carrying on heedlessly after we are dead.
The film is a lot of fun for people that love low-budget horror movies, especially the kind that came out in the 1980s. Its got some great gore, some cool 80s style effects and an awesome 80s style soundtrack. The movie is like going back in time to the 1980s, if you remember what horror movies were like then.
And if the story itself doesnt intrigue, The Void delivers a tightly-paced onslaught of body horror that always exceeds its indie roots. Theres plenty of shocks and Kostanski and Gillespie pace them out at a generous interval.
The film was mainly shot on Kodak Vision3 250D film stock. Scenes where Oscar is alive were shot in the super 35 format with Arricam LT cameras, and the rest in super 16 with an Aaton XTR Prod. The cinematographer was Benot Debie, who also shot Irrversible.
The Void is a 2016 supernatural horror film from writers and directors Steven Kostanski and Jeremy Gillespie whose premise and imagery has been heavily influenced by elements of the Cthulhu Mythos.
Actually, the movie is not so much about reincarnation. Its more about someone who gets shot while on acid and DMT [Dimethyltryptamine], and trips out about his own death and dreams about his soul escaping from his flesh, because he wants to keep this promise to his sister that hell never leave her, even after death.
Tons of blood and gore shown. The film contains several impactful scenes depicting bloody violence and gore. In one prolonged sequence, three men are attacked by numerous deformed monstrosities and alien-like creatures.
We had a crane on set, and Gaspar himself improvised the camera movement depending on how the actors did the scene or the architecture of the set. This was then assembled and smoothed out in post production to achieve a sense of flow and continuity. This is how almost the entire film was put together.
The Void is a rural-set horror film with cosmic implications that draws inspiration from popular author, H.P. Lovecraft and famed director, John Carpenter.
