I am an invisible man. Mrs. Dalloway said she would buy the flowers herself. You are about to begin reading Italo Calvinoamp;#39;s new novel. These three opening lines, from Ralph Ellisons amp;quot;Invisible Man,amp;quot; Virginia Woolfs amp;quot;Mrs. Dalloway, amp;quot; and Italo Calvinos amp;quot; If on a winters night a traveler, amp;quot; each establish a different point of view. Who is telling a story, and from what perspective, are some of the most important choices an author makes. Told from a different point of view, a story can transform completely. Take this fairytale: amp;quot;Rapunzel, Rapunzel, amp;quot; the Prince called, amp;quot;let down your hair.amp;quot; Rapunzel unbraided her hair and slung it out the window. The prince climbed her tresses into the tower. Rapunzel is typically told like this, with the narrator outside the story. This point of view is called third person. But Rapunzel can also be told by a character in the story a first person narra

Using the same word to start consecutive sentences usually leads to awkward and repetitive writing. It breaks the rhythm of your text and tends to put readers off.
Sometimes writers have a tendency to reuse the same sentence pattern throughout their writing. Like any repetitive task, reading text that contains too many sentences with the same length and structure can become monotonous and boring.
By using different sentence openers to delay the subject and/or verb of the main clause, we create tension and draw attention to certain aspects of the sentence. Consequently, we can manipulate the emphasis and pace of a sentence. We can also create cohesion when we use different sentence openers.
Vary the rhythm by alternating short and long sentences. Several sentences of the same length can make for bland writing. To enliven paragraphs, write sentences of different lengths. This will also allow for effective emphasis.
If the passage sounds monotonous, choppy, off in some way, and/or doesnt seem to flow, then varying the sentence pattern could help.
Try recasting sentences that start with I more objectively, so that the focus is on the what the emotion, the object, the person, the action and so on rather than the sense being used to experience it or the I-narrator doing the experience. Use the principles of free indirect speech to reduce your I count.
It is very important when you are writing a series of sentences that the sentences do not all sound the same. Sentences that all sound the same are not interesting to a reader. To help with this problem, you canvary, which means change or rearrange, your sentence beginnings.
Vary sentence structure in writing so that what you write doesnt look like a list of things on the one hand or a long winding sentence that might never end on the other hand. Varying sentence structure keeps your writing alive and readers interested.
