by now we have talked about auto layout and constraints and weve also figured out how to set up those constraints so that your ui actually behaves well in all possible form factors and im going to use the same example we have already set up the constraints i hit the play button its on iphone 12 everything looks good i move it to the landscape mode and everything still looks good so my constraints are actually working um what are we going to talk about here is what if i want to alter my ui or my configuration based upon how its supposed to look for a particular device type itself and you can start thinking about is the variation in the different form factors that we actually have we have those iphone 12s 12 pros which are really big in screen sizes and then we have those iphone 4s 5s iphone sc devices and iphone 12 mini as well so there are different form factors which are out there now you do have options like we talked about early on you can definitely go forward and lock your dev

Size classes are traits assigned to user interface elements, like scenes or views. They provide a rough indication of the elements size. Interface Builder lets you customize many of your layouts features based on the current size class. The layout then automatically adapts as the size class changes.
In Summary Add the constraints for the first variation (e.g. regular height). Create a trait variation for their Installed property. Switch the canvas to the new variation (e.g. compact height). Reposition your views for this new layout. Add the constraints specific to this layout variation.
Auto Layout is the preferred technology to define layouts for user interfaces on iOS and macOS. Its goal: To make it easy for you to create user interfaces that adapt automatically to different screen sizes and orientations. With Auto Layout enabled, you cannot set a views frame manually.
Xcode provides two size classes: Regular and Compact. Although they affect the physical dimensions of a view, they also represent the semantic size of the view. These are the size classes that the device passes to the app. However, you can override these size classes at any point in the view hierarchy.
Size Classes are the iOS method of creating adaptable layouts that look great on all sizes and orientations of iPhone and iPad. For example, you might want to say that your UI looks mostly the same in portrait and landscape, but on landscape some extra information is visible.
The two Size Classes that exist currently are Compact and Regular. The Compact Size Class refers to a constrained space. It is denoted in Xcode as wC (Compact width) and hC (Compact height). The Regular Size Class refers to a non-constrained space.
Size classes are traits assigned to user interface elements, like scenes or views. These are the groups of screen sizes that are applied to the width and height of the device screen. This is very useful when we want to show the different layout in iPhone and iPad for the same User interface.
Replies Trait Variations need to be enabled in the File Inspector tab. After that you can manually add traits by clicking the plus next to a property (itll use the active size class but you can modify it while creating too)
