Click the color well to the right of Background, then choose a color or gradient. A two-color gradient fill: Click the Background pop-up menu and choose Gradient Fill, then click the color wells below Background and choose colors.
Edit a custom template Open Pages, choose File New, then double-click the template you want to use as the basis for a new template. Custom templates appear in the My Templates category in the template chooser. Make your changes, choose File Save Template, then choose an option to save the document as a new template.
Apply a different page template In the Format sidebar, click Page Template, then choose a page template.
When editing a document, click on the upper right tab that says Document next to Format. Click the middle tab under the document tab titled Section. Click on background and choose black.
In the Format sidebar, do one of the following: If theres an Update button: Click Update. If theres only an asterisk: Click the style name, then move the pointer over the style name in the Paragraph Styles pop-up menu. Click the arrow that appears, then choose Redefine from Selection.
